Geoffrey Ritchie, JD, LL.M
Geoffrey Ritchie is the General Counsel at Mawer Investment Management Ltd. which he joined in 2016. Geoffrey is a member of the Legal and Compliance team and is involved in legal, regulatory and governance aspects of the firm.
Mr. Ritchie has held senior legal and compliance roles in the investment, banking and trust industry including: General Counsel of Zenbanx, a financial technology company, Chief Compliance Officer for BMO Harris Private Banking in Canada and Asia, Chief Compliance Officer for BMO Trust Company, and has practiced law with WeirFoulds LLP, Clifford Chance LLP (London, England) and with the Ontario Securities Commission in the Capital Markets and Compliance & Registrant Regulation branches.
Mr. Ritchie earned his Bachelor of Arts at McMaster University, his Juris Doctor at Queen’s University and his Masters of Law from Osgoode Hall at York University.
Mr. Ritchie is active in the investment industry as the Program Director and Faculty for the Regulatory Compliance and Legal Risk Management for Financial Institutions Program at Osgoode Hall Law School’s Professional Development Program, and previously taught Advanced Securities Law at Queen’s University and was the Vice Chair and Executive Director of the Private Capital Markets Association of Canada. Mr. Ritchie is also active in the community and serves as a volunteer Director and Vice-Chair of the William Osler Health System, one of Ontario’s largest community hospital systems.
