Geoff Ritchie joined Mawer in 2016. In addition to being a member of the firm’s Management Committee, Mr. Ritchie leads the Legal & Compliance team, responsible for the legal, compliance, risk, governance and corporate affairs at Mawer.
Mr. Ritchie has held senior legal and compliance roles in the investment management, banking, and trust industry, including: General Counsel of Zenbanx, a U.S.-based financial technology company; Chief Compliance Officer for BMO Harris Private Banking in Canada and Asia; Chief Compliance Officer for BMO Trust Company; and has practiced law with WeirFoulds LLP (corporate finance), Clifford Chance LLP in London, England (structured finance), as well as with the Ontario Securities Commission (regulatory policy and securities compliance).
He is a program director and faculty member of the “Regulatory Compliance and Legal Risk Management for Financial Institutions” program at Osgoode Hall Law School’s Professional Development Program, and previously taught Advanced Securities Law at Queen’s University. He was Vice Chair and Executive Director of the Private Capital Markets Association of Canada.
Mr. Ritchie is an active volunteer in his community, including serving as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for the William Osler Health System, one of Ontario’s largest community hospital systems that serves 1.3 million people through three hospital sites.
Mr. Ritchie is a graduate of McMaster University (BA), Queen’s University (JD), Osgoode Hall Law School (LL.M), and the Rotman School of Management (DEP).
