Jeffrey Phlegar, BBA MBA

Jeffrey Phlegar is  a member of the Board of Directors at Mawer Investment Management Ltd. in an advisory capacity since June 2025. Jeff has over 30 years of experience in the asset management industry, beginning his career as a fixed income investor and ultimately progressing to Chairman and CEO of MacKay Shields (a wholly-owned subsidiary of New York Life Investment Management). During his tenure, Jeff led the growth of the firm across products, asset classes, and geographies, and grew AUM from $48 billion to $150 billion. Prior to MacKay Shields, Jeff spent 17 years at AllianceBernstein, which included time spent as Co-CIO of Fixed Income, Director of U.S. Fixed Income and Insurance, and Director of Liquid Markets/MBS. Since retiring from MacKay Shields in Q1 2024, Jeff has set up and led the NEPM Foundation, which is a nonprofit he established in honour of his wife to support research to find a cure for brain cancer.

Jeff graduated with a BBA, Banking, Finance from Hofstra University and an MBA from Adelphi University. He previously served on the board of MacKay Shields LLC for 13 years, and prior to that was a member of the U.S. Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee for 7 years. Additionally, he has served as Vice-Chair of New York Life Investments (NYLI) International and was a member of the boards of NYLI Management Asia and of Candriam (Belgium).
