Highly social science with Beakerhead
September 13, 2016

This week we have the pleasure of partnering with Beakerhead, a Calgary based charitable organization whose mandate is promoting education at the crossroads of art, science and engineering.  For five days every September, Beakerhead brings together the arts and engineering sectors from across the city, province, country and world to build, compete and exhibit interactive works of art and entertainment.

This year, we partnered with Beakerhead to create a larger than life outdoor installation called “Highly Social Science.” This interactive display challenges viewers to answer a different question every day via social media and “move the needle” on the exhibit which is displayed on the side of a building at 2303 - 4th Street SW in Calgary.

The questions for “Highly Social Science” are intended to be thought-provoking and fun, while touching upon some of the themes we have previously explored in the Art of Boring blog.

Today’s first question is:

Do you make decisions based on fact over gut feel?

You can answer and view the other responses by visiting the hashtag #HSSYYC. And for more on this subject, please check out When Less is More: Overcoming the "Do Something Bias".

We will be posting the remaining questions each day on the Mawer website and on our LinkedIn page.

Beakerhead has proven that when you open the doors to science and engineering through a welcoming world of art and entertainment, a lot can happen.  We can inspire tomorrow’s workforce; stimulate ingenuity; engage the public in science, engineering and art; build the economy; and perhaps most importantly, actively learn by doing.

Beakerhead runs from September 14-18, 2016 throughout the city of Calgary. For more information and a full listing of events, please visit beakerhead.com.
